Guide for Authors

Papers that have been published or that are being considered elsewhere must
not be submitted to the Annals. The author (s) guarantee (s) (by a letter to the Editor) that the manuscript has not been previously published, wholly or in part, and is not and will not be under consideration for publication elsewhere and that if accepted it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the publisher.

Authors who wish to contribute Manuscripts (s) to the Annals of the Geological Survey of Egypt have to submit three complete manuscripts to Editor- in - Chief:

The papers should be prepared according to Instructions for Contributors

Papers submitted will be- refereed by two independent and competent referees selected by the Editorial Board. The decision regarding acceptance or rejection of a manuscript is the responsibility of the editorial board and is based largely on the recommendations of reviewers. Manuscripts, which are returned to the authors for any required revision, should be completed and resent within One Month.

Guidelines for manuscript preparation

Authors submitting papers for publication are kindly requested to abide with the following guidelines carefully:

1- The ideal maximum length for papers to be published in the Annals is 8 printed pages (equivalent to 16 manuscript pages, including abstract, tables, captions and illustrations.

2- Manuscript should be presented in three copies including the original, typed double space on one side white paper of A4 size and written by WinWord for Windows, with Times New Roman (Font 11). Margins of 25 mm (1 inch) should be left at all sides for all copies. Authors are kindly requested to submit the final text of the article after refereeing on a CD in addition to final hard copy.

3- The title should not exceed 80 characters in length including spaces. It should be typed in Font 14, capital letters, Bold and Centered.

4- Subject Headings are used to break the text into sections typed in capital letters. Three orders of headings are recommended. They should be arranged as follow:

a- Main or first-order headings: Bold, Capitals, and Centered (e.g. INTRODUCTION, GEOLOGIC SETTING, and CONCLUSION).

b- Second-order headings, the first letter of the first word should be capitalized, bold and Left-adjusted. and

c- Third-order headings, the first letter of the first word should be capitalized, Italic, and Left-adjusted.

5- Name(s) and address (es) of author (s): The first name (in full) and surname of each author should be followed by his or her affiliation(s) and address (es). Address (es) should be typed below their respective names without underlining. Full postal addresses must be given for all co-authors. The corresponding author should be identified and his/her fax and e-mail address given. Use Font 12 for name (s) and affiliation of author(s).

6- Abstract: Each paper should be preceded by an abstract in English summarizing the most important results and conclusions rather than contents of the paper. The abstract should not exceed 250 words. Literature citations should not appear in the abstract.

7- Keywords: The authors are kindly requested to supply four to six keywords in order of hierarchy with each word separated by a comma that can be used for indexing /abstracting purposes. The keywords should be below the abstract.

8- Text body: The whole text should be written in Font 11.

9- Tables: The tables should be numbered consecutively, and printed on separate sheets with a brief descriptive title followed by a double rule. Footnotes to tables should be typed below the table and should be referred to by superscript lowercase letters. All tables should be designed to fit width of a Journal page (not exceed 16 cm in width and 22 cm in length).

10- Illustrations: Photographs, charts and diagrams are all to be referred to as "Figure(s)" and should be numbered consecutively in the order to which they are referred. Each figure/plate must be clearly identified with figure number. Each map must contain geographic coordinates, North arrow and a scale bar.

11- Acknowledgments: The acknowledgments section should be brief.

12- References cited: All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references following the text of the manuscript. In the text refer to the author's name (without initials) and year of publication. The reference list should only include the published references (or accepted for publication) that are cited in the manuscript. The reference list should be arranged alphabetically by surname comma, and initials. Multiple references with one are given chronologically (oldest reference first). Names of journals, Bulletins, serials, and societies must be spelled out and not abbreviated.

12- Figure captions: Figure captions should be brief. Each caption begins with the abbreviation "Fig." followed by the figure number and a period. Multiple parts of figures may be indicated in any convenient way, such as (A) and (B), (a) and (b), (left) and (right), or (upper) and (lower).

13- Footnotes: Footnotes, except those in tables should be avoided. Nevertheless, certain material does require a footnote; examples include present addresses, directions for obtaining depository tables (or figures) and computer programs…etc. Footnotes should be typed at the bottom of the page and be indicated by a superscript number.
